In 1862, London’s Blackwall Port was a bustling hub of maritime trade. Ships sailed to the sandy coasts of Maryland, Virginia, and other parts of the Eastern Seaboard, carrying people, goods, and opportunity. 

At the docks, a nimble shipmate had only moments to secure a vessel as tides shifted.

The Blackwall Hitch knot—simple, fast, and reliable—held ships steady as they rose and fell with the water, becoming a symbol of seamanship, precision, and trust.

Those same values found a natural home in Annapolis, one of America’s great historic maritime ports. Along the docks of the MR of Eastport, trading ships, sailboats, and Naval vessels have long shaped the rhythm of the harbor.

In 1845, Annapolis became home to the United States Naval Academy, training generations of leaders grounded in honor, discipline, and service. In 1946, the Navy established the United States Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron—the Blue Angels—showcasing excellence in Naval aviation. Many Blue Angels pilots, like most Naval aviators, are graduates of the Naval Academy.

When we opened our first Blackwall Hitch restaurant just off the Annapolis Harbor in 2014, our vision was simple: create a place where people would return often and linger late — place for romantic evenings, gatherings with friends, and celebrations of life’s most meaningful moments. Blackwall Hitch Alexandria followed in 2015, expanding that vision to the Potomac River, the river of our Nation’s capital.

Today, Blackwall Hitch Annapolis proudly stands at the intersection of maritime tradition and modern Naval excellence. We honor the United States Naval Academy, the United States Navy, and the Blue Angels. Our Eastport home is a gathering place for Navy Midshipmen, alumni, service members, supporters, and visitors alike.
